Dachigam National Park
The next day we explored the Dachigam National Park, eager to catch a glimpse of the much sought orange bullfinch. We were not lucky to spot them.Shabir our guide said that they still haven't come.We were able to identity Spotted forktail quenching its thirst In Dagwan nallah meandering through the heart of the park. After spending some time watching them, we continued along the stream. The fallen maple leaves had formed a cosy winter carpet on the pathway.
Underneath the tall maple trees, we were treated to the beauty of the Himalayan Bluetail. And the melodious calls of the Variegated laughingthrush added beauty to the serene park.
Few other birds sighted during day trip 1. Himalayan bluetail.
2. Chestnut thrush
3. Black throated thrush
4. Himalayan Common buzzard
5. Variegated laughingthrush
6. Green backed tit
7. Himalayan black bulbul
8. Brown dipper
Badgam
We headed towards Badgam, enroute we were able passes through a place which looked bit eerie, place full of trees with stunted growth. We could spot the Tawny Owl in its roosting place here.I have a strong belief that sighting a Owl is a sign of good luck and fortune.

After a multiple attempts we could photograph Mistle Thrush in the canopy, Pine Bunting, Brahmling,Tree Creepers,Yellow Hammer, were few birds that i sighted till evening.
The best part of the day duirng our return was sighting a Common leopard resting in a cave.It knew our presence, as the sun was setting and we felt not to disturb it.
Pampore
Our next destination was place known for Saffron fields and a lake.It was ideal stopover before heading to Wular lake. The morning light had illuminated the freshwater.I could spot Northern Shoveler, Domesticated ducks, Mallards, Common Coot, Grey lag Goose and Gadwalls. Our lookout was for the elusive water rail,we walked to the far end of lake to spot it. The lake had large patches of weeds, which attracted some birds which we couldnt identify. And to our astonishment, a White tailed emerged from a concealed corner in the grassland, welcoming us with a surprising proximity.Which made all the birds fly away
“The water body here have all the streaks for the survival of migratory birds including a safe ecosystem, safe habitat, and nesting places,” The highlight is well protected too.
Yousmarg & Chadoora
Though Yousmarg is known to travel community, as a hill station we did not find any tourists. The valley was surrounded by pine trees, the sky was blue. The pine tree is a ideal place to look for Kashmir Nut cracker.I had seen Nut cracker, in Bhutan during Chele la - Kila Gompa Trek.We could find few tits, able to spot Brown fronted woodpecker on a tall tree. The snow patches made us happy. It was cold in morning, though it was sunny. The Nil Nag lake too was frozen. We walked through the fine forest to find Kashmir Nut cracker. But we were not enough to spot them.
Moments turned into hours as we observed the Rufous naped tit began to go from branch to branch and tree to tree, and our patience was rewarded with several beautiful shots.
However Kashmir Nuthatch,Scaly Bellied Woodpecker,Gold Crest,White Cheeked Nuthatch were few species that greeted us
Wular Lake
Nestled in the midst of beautiful mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Wular Lake is a rare jewel that captures the spirit of nature's glory. Considered as one of Asia's largest freshwater lakes, is a vast body of water rich in life, beauty, and history.
By the time we reached Wular lake it was afternoon. With the help of shoqat , a local boatman a lot of water birds by touching the corners of the lake. Explore islands, surrounded by willow trees and nesting places of birds. Few species included Common Moorhen, Sandpiper, Purple Swamphen,Pied KingFishers,Mallards,Northern Shoveler,Spotted Eagle, Coots. The highlight of the visit was spotting Eurasian Bittern Or Great Bittern after a long wait, and island hopping !

The sunset added to the beauty of the place and made our visit memorable !
Many still feel that Kashmir is still insecure! The remote corners too now are well connected and people are friendly to welcome visitors.
Overall i felt , that be it a boatman or guides like Dar, Bilal, Waseem and Shabir are of great potential.interacting with individuals having varied experiences not only enriches mutual knowledge but also cultivates open-mindedness, bonding, adaptability, and a broader understanding of the Cultures & Tradition !
