Trek to Guddehalli Peak

This beautiful hillock is surrounded by condensed forest and green valleys. The entire view from the hillock looks magical during monsoon and winters covered by fog and foliage.

Trek to Guddehalli Peak

Guddehalli is a small hamlet, around 5 KMs from Karwar. The Guddehalli peak is at an elevation of ~1800 feet above sea level and surrounded by Belikeri River and Kali River on west and east side respectively.

Trek Trail to the peak

There is a motorable way from Karwar to Guddehalli village. The road is wide but it’s a muddy uneven terrain in the uphill. Suggest try with 2-wheeler. Better way is to trek which may take ~90 minutes. It’s worth trekking to reach this village by enjoying the beautiful views. From the village, another an hour of ascent takes you to the top of the peak. The last stretch to reach the peak is interesting.

What did I like?

Guddehalli village itself is attractive.

The 360-degree view from the peak is just awesome. From the hillock, the views of Naval base, Sadashiv ghad, Koormagada island and Kali River amused me. Surrounding lush green gives treat to your eyes.

Encountering beautiful wildflowers, different species of frogs and butterflies during post monsoon. I heard some research was taken in this vicinity few years back to study the unique frog species.

What I did not like?

The premise is tormented by trekkers. Found litter everywhere on the top - water bottles, plastics, used plates, glasses, snack covers everywhere. This makes pain for the one’s who admire the nature.

What we should not miss - Vishraama Gowda’s talent and passion

Don’t forget to visit Vishraama Babu Gowda’s house in Guddehalli. You will be amused with his wooden sculptures. Inspired and support from his father Baabu Gowda, he started making wood sculptures, from his early age, using unused woods in the surrounding. He has not taken any help / support from the government and any other organization. He is passionate and carved many wood sculptures – Deer, Army man, birds, elephant, crocodile, tiger, rifle etc., There are many more collections in his house. I bet whoever visits his house, will not come out clicking snaps and appreciating his talent.

Apart from his talent, the hospitality he provides to the visitors is something everyone appreciates.

Nearest shop - There is a small shop in Guddehalli. You get snacks - Chips, cookies, and water bottles. You can approach Vishraama Gowda’s house in the village to arrange lunch.

Right time to Trek - Guddehalli is accessible all over the year. Post monsoon is the best time. Try in September – December period.

Final word - Respect mother nature. Don’t litter and keep the premise as is.
