The hidden charm of Sholas - Netravati Peak
A beautiful experience in the heart of Kudremukh forest range. Get a sneak peak into an un-explored trail.

Nestled in the Kudremukh forest range, amidst the lush green sholas and tea plantations , rich in bio-diversity is the lesser known, yet, a very exciting trail that leads to Netravati Peak in the Western ghats.
An overnight journey from Bangalore to Chikmagalur gets us to a very peaceful home stay in the quaint village of Samse. Post a sumptuous breakfast and packed lunch, we kick-start our journey with a roughly 7 km bumpy off-road jeep drive to reach the base of the trek.
This place hosts a variety of flora and fauna and is an absolute treat for nature lovers and wildlife photographers. Along with beautiful views ,nature also serves us with the odd blood-sucking leeches on the trail. We prescribe the usual Dettol, lemon and salt, Odomos for travelers to avoid any misery! J
The tea gardens and betelnut trees covering the initial five hundred meters walk is a sight to behold. Post a good two kilometer hike, one can witness the exquisite and scenic view of Kudremukh range.
As we hike up further, we rejoice looking at the two-tier waterfall en route. A further seven kilometers lead us to a velvety valley through the thick green aka shola grasslands .The gradual and steady incline is worth the effort as the views from the top is astonishing. As part of a kaleidoscopic view, the beautiful Netravati river, a clear view of Kudremukh peak and cloud-laden green valley add further joy.
Soaking in the mesmerizing views from the top, spending some time gazing at the beauty, you feel at peace and this is joy in the true sense. It is that moment when the mind and the heart play a little battle,as we have to prepare for the descent back to base by taking the same trail.
We reach the base feeling worn-out but content and happy. After taking care of the hunger pangs, we hit the sack. The feeling next morning is no different to what has happened numerous times before, as we find ourselves on the cusp of bidding adieu to this heaven on earth The heart longs to stay put and remain here, as our legs take us away farther away.
P.S.We strongly believe in trekking etiquettes and Leave no trace policy. Bring back what you take out and be your garbage guardian.!!
