The Sublime Beauty of Waterfalls tucked away in the Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary never ceases to enthrall me, with its sheer remoteness, beauty, and grandeur at all times exaggeration indeed !.

Having explored from the Malenadu side of the western ghats, passing through the hamlets of Kattinakaru, and Karani, having witnessed its vastness standing on a precarious edge at Kalgatta viewpoint. I always had a novel experience.

The locals often referred to it as Belligundi - Rhapsody in Silver, the guided trek passing through the green pastures, evergreen thick forest under the canopy. was always alluring.

Having visited the waterfalls in all Months from August to April, I always was, as curious as a child to explore. It is an accepted fact that it is for those who are physically fit. With a  duration ranging from 10 hours to 12 hours in general.

The perennial waterfalls are ideal to visit after the Monsoon, accompanied by an experienced trusty guide to reach the waterfalls and with written permission from the forest department.is

MANDATORY.

The vast dense forest cover, however, spreads onto the coastal side of Kollur, Baindur, and Shiroor till Kundapur making it accessible from another side too.

I however discovered its other face during one of the visits. A Trans trek indeed from Malenadu region to the Coastal tip. The coastal folk call it Kudumari - The child of woods and Chaktikal because of a hamlet in the fringes of forest cover. The downstream trek, walking on the slippery rocks and passing through bamboo thickets culminates at a place called Gandanadu yet another lesser-known lonely place.

Everlasting Moments at the Waterfalls

One can savor the natural beauty of waterfalls, as one reaches the stream jutting the rocks. The first sight of the cascade, hide and seek, through the canopy cover is a sheer delight.

Walking through waist-deep water, balancing on slippery rocks, and walking on all fours is a tedious task indeed!

Be watchful and don't be surprised, you may hold a hump-nosed pit viper or Russell's viper resting on a rock or clinging to the bark of a tree.BEWARE they are, camouflaged and are deadly, a bite is really FATAL.

After successful maneuvering, the rock brings you to the base of the waterfalls. The slippery rocks always pose danger, if you are not alert and careful. There are no words to describe as you take a shower under it.

Time flies off as you are engaged in multiple activities. The golden light strikes the veil of water as the sun goes down, transforming the base of falls with bright light and golden glow. The dew drops to form a VIBGYOR, making your day memorable.

Don't delay, as it gets dark as light diminishes. You need to head back and be over-cautious during your descent with your buddies.

You call it Belligundi , Chaktikal or Kudumari. The sheer roar, rewarding views, and magnificence never fail to disappoint you. The showers surely caress your tired body and rejuvenate your soul forever!.
